Can't Be Chocked-Up to Coincidence

Image
Have you ever had something daze you, on and off, for days?   An impossible occurance you can’t chock up to coincidence? It happened to me a few days ago.  It’s so bizarre! I had to put it in writing to see if I could make sense of it.  I’ll tell it in story form because it’s the only way I can look back on it, looking from the outside in. I volunteer at Liberty Street Robot Supply and Repair.  I’d been there awhile and was ready for my second cup of coffee.  The first cup, Hannah Rose, an intern at 826 Michigan, bought for me.   I had been working, in the store, for two hours and needed a second cup. I couldn’t do without it. I brought a multi-grain roll, split open and smooshed with goat cheese, for lunch.  I had to have coffee to savor it completely.  I went over to Elixir Vitae.  There was a young woman at the counter, who was reaching over to get her coffee, from the barista.  Five-foot-one, petit...

Not To Be a Homing Pigeon

Image
It suits me.  Little gates, with wrought-iron fences. Sidewalks following my neighborhood, block after block.  Each new season I like to explore new diversions.  I miss many of them by taking the same routes, like a homing pigeon.   A Picture Doesn't Capture These (They looks so touchable and soft, especially blowing in the wind) Having a date with Sonya and Matt for coffee and cinnimon rolls, on Sunday, I walked an entirely new path in my neighborhood, to get there.  I had some sweet surprises. By surprises I mean things that make me take notice and usually make me smile.  If you are a reader of my blog, you know I love to search for “things”, hunt for treasures and be a “Noticer”.  I inherited the gene, I’m pretty sure.  Mom can’t wait to look for rocks.  When she’s in Florida she can spend hours looking for shells.  She also used to take some of us to a small abandoned dump and we’d dig.  We dug for...

All Rolled Into One-Zusammen & Birlikte

Image
My son, Holden and daughter, Elizabeth came home to see me in Ann Arbor.    It was Thanksgiving and Christmas all rolled into one.    I now sit in my apartment, writing my blog, alone again.    Sad, and content, too.    I had my kids with me.    It was wonderful. Holden Elizabeth Reunited we are again, family and blood kin. Itineraries, lunch dates, study and writing. We remain separate, but together.  We found time to sit by the fire. Cold outside, warm with each other. As our past and future intertwined We reestablished our boundaries and inclusions. Love pushes and pulls. But apart we can stay joined. Taking our separate journeys, sanctioned by trust and love. Like a baby loon, learning to fly, no mother would clamp its wings,  holding it back. Stopping its natural flight. No damp, newborn colt would be kept from standing. No mare would stop ...

The Day After

Image
Met a man carrying a Christmas Tree  As I was walking down the street, hi-ho, hi-ho, hi-ho, hi-ho, some interesting sights I chance to meet, Hi-ho, Hi-ho, Hiii-ho!  I went to swim at the pool, today.  I figured it would be smooth swimming, without much competition for lanes.  I thought most people would have commitments with family and other things.  I was right, it was delightful.  I swam for an hour. I really hated to get out.  I felt like I was mermaid, leaving my natural habitat.  As Lucy Evashevski say, “You are The Memaid of this lake!”  She was referring to Lake Huron.  Her and her husband, John, walk on the boardwalk, quite regularly, in St. Ignace (before the snow).  So they see me, in the cold lake, snorkling or just playing in the water, when I’m up there. I know I started my writing with “As I went walking....”  Because, when I was walking to the YMCA today, I saw a man carrying quite a large Chris...

It's True!

Image
Well, it's true.  I'm writing a novel in November.   I joined NaNoWriMo this year and am enjoying the process and the challenge.  I just logged in a total of 17,963 words after my 7th day.  Don't think they all are spelled correctly or editted.  That will come.  For now I'm just enjoying being a writer with a huge goal ahead of me. I'm writing a young person's novel.  The main characters are a young girl, Nila and a young boy, Peiter.  Peiter lives in a gypsy community, in Germany.  Nila lives on an Amish farm, in the eastern part of America.  How they meet?  I guess you'll have to read my novel. I'll have written 50,000 words by the last day of November.  Holden, my son, is my buddy.  He accomplished his novel in 2013 with NaNoWriMo and is writing again this year.  That's how I heard about this great idea and thought I'd try it. I included some facts on the program. NaNoWriMo Facts and ...

My cousin, Kathy (Cro-Jo) Feher, sent me a poster I just HAD to put up after my last blog, because I wrote about swindling the hands of the clock.   It's about the Daylight Saving's Time.   It's so approriate to this time of year.  Thanks for that, Cro-Jo!

Is Summer and Love Over?

Image
Huron Bay, St. Ignace, Michigan Frost on rooftops in the morning. Burning bush flame dwindling. Hands of the clock swindled again to save daylight. Is summer over? Sun hurrying across the sky to set. I scavenge for warm clothes and scarves. Colorful pumpkins on porches instead of fields. Did summer end? Ice-melting-bags of salt, jugs of antifreeze, Replacing bugspray and sunscreen. School buses run on time, like a subway. Did three months really pass? Thermostat up in place of air conditioner down. Windows closed instead of open. Colorful leaves pressed ready to send to Florida. Is Karen really gone? U.P. Girl in the U.P. One of Karen's Favorite Quotes She sent to me for my Graffiti Wall --- "Believe in the unseen potential of all people"  KJM Her cache of smiles and pastel colored clothes. Beach walking, catch-up talking, family-matronly-sister. Loving listener, enthusiastic season planner. Did her life...
