Is Summer and Love Over?

Huron Bay, St. Ignace, Michigan

Frost on rooftops in the morning.
Burning bush flame dwindling.
Hands of the clock swindled again to save daylight.
Is summer over?

Sun hurrying across the sky to set.
I scavenge for warm clothes and scarves.
Colorful pumpkins on porches instead of fields.
Did summer end?

Ice-melting-bags of salt, jugs of antifreeze,
Replacing bugspray and sunscreen.
School buses run on time, like a subway.
Did three months really pass?

Thermostat up in place of air conditioner down.
Windows closed instead of open.
Colorful leaves pressed ready to send to Florida.
Is Karen really gone?

One of Karen's Favorite Quotes
She sent to me for my Graffiti Wall ---
"Believe in the unseen potential of all people"  KJM

Her cache of smiles and pastel colored clothes.
Beach walking, catch-up talking, family-matronly-sister.
Loving listener, enthusiastic season planner.
Did her life really pass?

(Karen, center, of course, is not participating in ruining the picture)

Fire burns out, rain freezes, heart breaks.
Time’s lost, plans shaken, life taken.
Recalling memories of Karen versus memory making.
Is love ever really over?
