Tourism is About to Begin.....

I learned something new about my mother.  She knows about smart socks.  I knew there were smart phones, and smart heating systems, smart cars and smart kids, but not smart socks.

We went to Petoskey, yesterday.  It was a sunny day and instead of cleaning out Mom's flower bed and being sore for a week, we decided to head for Petoskey.  We walked, window shopped and stopped in several stores.  We stopped in Russell's Shoe Store for the longest.  When Mom asked the lady at the shoe store, about their "smart" wool socks, it got my attention.  They're warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

She tried on a pair of pretty shoes with polka dots, but she found a much more comfortable grey pair she purchased.  We stopped to get our picture taken at the Perry Hotel to show everyone we had class. (if they fall for it)

I'm always trying to get craft projects that don't involve sewing.  I like to have ideas handy, when someone wants to do a "Project" and I need to entice them away from patterns.  This fish made out of beer caps was interesting.

I loved this entrance to a store.  It looked like they were getting ready for summer tourism.  These Petoskey stones will be a good gimmick to get the tourist to stop.

St. Ignace is getting prepared for tourism too.  Today, when Mom and I went for a walk out to Java Joe's, for coffee, there were many signs of preparation for the new season.  No bugs, no snow, no wind.  Perfect day to walk and feel the town stirring.  It's obvious tourist season hasn't begun.  It was easy to cross main street wherever you want.  You don't have to look for a crosswalk and hope the traffic sees you crossing.  (there are no pedestrian signs flashing "walk" or "don't walk")

Alan Turf was out sweeping off the sidewalk in front of his store, The Voyageur Trading Post.

The crew from the city were mowing, raking and dumping loads of clean sand on Kiwanis Beach.

The Shepler's Crew were out fixing up a sign.  Many local people were giving their lawn its first trim for the season.

The ticket booth at Arnold Line is still boarded up.   The shelves on Murdick's Fudge are empty of tempting delicacies.

The bait shop is still closed.
But, Clyde's Drive-In is open.  Things will start to come alive, once the word gets out.
